The French actress and Oscar-winner Juliette Binoche has traveled to Tehran in order to play a role in Iranian director Abbas Kirostami's new movie. The Persian service IRNA reported that the film will also be shot in Iran. She will play the leading part in Kiarostami's film which as of yet remains publicly untitled.
In 1964, Juliette Binoche was born the daughter of an actress and a sculptor. She was only 23 when she first gained the notice of international film critics with "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" (1988). Later, she played a starring role as the heroine of France's most expensive movie ever: "Le Hussard sur le toit" (1995). It cost upwards of $35 million by the time it was completed.
In 1996 "The English Patient" achieved blockbuster status and with this brought her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
At the start of the 21st century, Juliette found herself a nominee for the Academy Award for Best Actress for the film "Chocolat", in which she co-starred with Johnny Depp. The movie is taken from the novel by Joanne Harris. Although she did not win (the award was given to Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich) her first-rate performances continue to wow audiences and gain the admiration of the film industry.
