Maria recieved her B.A. degree in English from Mount St. Mary's College. She minored in Business Managment because she found it too dry to swallow all in one go. Nooriala’s fourth book of poems, A Chain on the Hands in the Constellation of Prosperity, will soon be published. Nooriala is also a literary critic. Pirayeh Yaghmaii
Pirayeh Yaghmaii is the youngest daughter of Habib Yaghmaii, publisher of __Yaghma__, the famed (high-circulation) monthly (specializing in literature) that kept being published (enjoyed a large readership) in Iran for 31 years uninterruptedly (in the pre-Revolutionary times).
In the backdrop of such an environment, it becomes evident that Pirayeh was raised in the epicenter of Persian poetry and art. She started composing verse at a very young age and continued the work in the field into the later years also by doing research and writing essays (and reviews) on literature (and literary works).
Pirayeh employs all forms and styles (freely) in the attempt to express her thoughts. She believes that the single most influential element lending novelty (and substance) to poetic work is the poet's own intellect and philosophic outlook. [According to her, form and style are the mode of expression, while the thought and imagination provides the substance.] The poet may express the thought just as effectively in the modern style (The New Verse School) as the traditional Classical School of the older times, a genre characterized by strict adherence to rules of the rhyme and rhythmically stylish and elaborate mode of expression.
Some serious works in the field produced by Pirayeh in the recent past include a series of children's stories in Persian that have been published in Iran in several volumes (and editions). Her latest work in juvenile literature was the storybook in English titled __The Three Crooks__ published in Australia by H.H.I. Publications that enjoyed record acclaim (at the time).
Rezwan is an Iranian American (Dad - Iranian, Mom - Anglo Saxon) Born in the USA, she spent some years of her childhood in Iran, then moved to America in her teens. She received a B.A. in Environmental Science from UC Berkeley and an M.R.P. (Masters in Regional Planning) from Cornell. She got the environmental science degree to learn how to “save the earth.” Unfortunately, studying the problems made her cynical and overwhelmed. She then got the planning degree to inform her writing of “Redemptive Environmental Science (R.E.S.) Fiction” – e.g., to escape the problems of the world by writing stories in which humanity resolves its problems. After graduating from Cornell, she took a trip to South Africa for a planning related project. This was followed with a job at Warner Bros. Consumer Products and hid out for many years. During this time she found her true voice. Among myriad of other things both great and ridiculous (she’s not sure which is which), she is dedicated to finding adventurous, fun ways of exploring the Persian language and culture.
Ms. Valipour was born in 1971 and has lived in France since age thirteen. She has a B.A. degree in English literature and an M.A. from the Sorbonne University in American civilization. She is the youngest executive at an international company, the President and Chairman of which is Iranian. She is responsible for public relations and for promoting Iranian contemporary artists. I was pulled out of my mother's womb
in Houston, Texas. I lived there for ten years then unwillingly moved to
Tehran, Iran. I coped there for six years and eventually moved to Irvine,
CA, completely flummoxed and disoriented. I slithered lethargically at
University High School trying to conform and "fit in." By the end of high
school I was completely lost and didn't know what to do, so I applied to
UCI, where I currently study biology. (I am only cynical when it comes to
decisions I never had a hand in.)
I guess beyond all labels, which I believe depreciates humans, and
descriptions (such as movie buff and book enthusiast, or agnostic), I can
say that I seek awareness of every moment and ultimately enlightenment, if
such a possibility exists. I hold on steadfastly to my principles even if
they change tomorrow.
I spend most of my day reading and the rest of it watching movies, or
doubting God's existence.
You can mock now.

The house of world poets has been established in 2006 with the supports of Ahmad Shamlou’s official website as an independent and nonprofit project relying on individual donations and has been able to involve 30 volunteer editors and translators to publish more than 1000 high quality poetry translations.
After Islamic Revolution, Iranian modern poetry has suffered from a great absence of new voices due to the governmental censorship and restrictions. Since this ideological censorship and restriction has affected traditional book publishing, internet has become the only free sphere that makes an alternative voice to be heard by Iranian young generation. For us, all poets, in all corners of history and in all regions of the world are our contemporary poets; therefore we have devoted ourselves to research on and to translate world poetry. We have translated more than one hundred poets, including Vladimir Holan, Nichita Stanescu, Federico Garcia Lorca, Vasko Popa, Ilhan Berk, Mark Strand, Linda Pastan, W.S Merwin, Anna Swir, Zbigniew Herbert, Paul Celan, Rainer Maria Rilke, Denise Levertov, Margaret Atwood, Ingeborg Bachmann, Tamura Ryuichi, Gunnar Ekelöf, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Kathleen Raine, and Leonard Nathan and many others.
The house of world poets is simply an anthology of world poetry in Persian including:
- Poetry from a growing number of countries
- An international poets' archive
- National and international poetry news
- Essays on poetry
- Information on important national and international poetry organizations

Sousan Alemansour, Esq.,
Tahereh Shey,
I was born in Iran where I received a BSc and MSc in Agriculture with the major in Agronomy. I began my career by teaching genetics to the medical vet and biology students at University of Urumia-Rezaieh. I moved to Australia in 1993 to obtain a PhD, however, I became fascinated with the fundamental differences in behaviours and communication modes between Iranians and Australians. The serious consequences of these cultural clashes manifested in high divorce rate, substance abuse, domestic violence and family break ups among migrants; and the lack of understanding of the causes of these problems amongst immigrant themselves led me to divert my focus of attention to study Iranian culture and social behaviour.
I spent seven years on observing, comparing, analysing, and collecting data by communicating to people. “Ma Chera Chenin Shodim” is the essence of this study published in August 2000 in Sydney. Even though the copies of the book were limited it received good exposure and was reviewed in various Iranian media outlets in Australia and USA. The book initiated a debate among Iranian readers. Over last four years, the nature of the debate and the attitudes expressed towards me for writing the book, made me to realize that there were issues that were overlooked in the first edition. My new book entitled “Imprisoned by Culture” is my attempt to accommodate these new findings; the book is under publication in Iran. Currently, I am in the process of expanding the scope of my study to cover similar cultures and communities, mainly non-democratic countries. This would be the theme for my next book that I am hoping to publish in English to reach wider audiences. Meanwhile you will hear my voice in articles published in selected Iranian media outlets such as IranDokht.
